Editorial policy
Credit Cards for Rewards publishes general education about US credit cards and rewards programs. This policy explains where our information comes from, how we keep it dated, how we fix mistakes, and how money is kept apart from what we write. It describes how we work today and will be updated if that changes.
Our standards
- Plain language. We explain tradeoffs in everyday words and avoid hype.
- Responsible use first. We don't promote carrying a balance, manufactured spend or program loopholes. Rewards only come out ahead if you pay the statement balance in full every month.
- Honest about limits. We say when something depends on the issuer, changes often or can't be known in advance, such as whether you'll be approved.
How we research
Card details are checked against the issuer's own product page for each card. If we haven't verified a specific product page, we link to the issuer's main credit card page instead.
Our first research pass looked at issuer pages and at other publications (such as NerdWallet and The Points Guy) to choose which cards to cover, see which questions readers ask, and get ideas for tools like the Card Finder. We don't publish their figures. Before a card's details go on the site we check them against the issuer's own page, and where our early notes and the issuer disagree, the issuer's page wins and we say so on the card page. For example, several annual fee bands in our catalog were corrected this way. A few "watch out" notes, such as Chase's unofficial 5/24 rule, describe widely reported issuer practice rather than published terms.
What we publish, and what we leave to the issuer
Some card terms change so often that a fixed number on our site would soon be wrong. We therefore don't list welcome offers, APRs, intro APR lengths or the dollar amounts of statement credits as facts. Instead, card pages say to check the current offer or terms on the issuer's site. Annual fees are shown as bands ($0, $1–$99, $100–$249 and $250+) rather than exact amounts, and earn rates are described in general terms.
Dates and updates
- Each card page shows the date its details were last reviewed against the issuer's site. Guides show a "Last updated" date.
- We change that date when we re-check a page against its sources or make a substantive change to it.
- We re-check card details from time to time and when we learn that something may have changed, for example from a reader report or a change on the issuer's site.
- When a card closes to new applicants, we don't delete it. Its page is labeled with the date and the source of that information, it stays available for reference for existing cardholders, it is left out of Card Finder results and the comparison picker, and we point to an open alternative where one fits.
Corrections and reporting errors
If you think something on the site is wrong or out of date, please email hello@creditcardsforrewards.com or contact@creditcardsforrewards.com. It helps to include:
- the address of the page,
- what you believe is incorrect, and
- a link to the issuer page or document that shows the correct information, if you have one.
We check reports against the issuer's own information. If we got something wrong, we fix the page and update its review or "Last updated" date. We read every report, but we can't promise an individual reply or a set turnaround time.
Advertising, affiliate links and editorial independence
- Credit Cards for Rewards may earn a commission from some links on the site. Right now, the card links on our card pages and tools go straight to issuer websites and are not affiliate links.
- We aim to recommend products based on fit for common spending patterns and responsible use—not solely on payout size. Our methodology describes which card information the Card Finder uses to match cards.
- We show an advertising disclosure near card links, and our affiliate disclosure explains how the site may earn money. If we add affiliate partnerships, we will update that page.
- Which cards we cover, how we describe them and what we flag as drawbacks are editorial decisions. We aim to base them on card features, costs and responsible use, not solely on payout size.
